Constructivism: Moving the Masses
Dylan Wyatt, Jiya Naryani, Oriana Foss, and myself created a pop-up exhibition showing the audience the role of propaganda in the Constructivism Movement.
It informs them of the many revolutions and civil war that sparked the movement and how these uncertain changes of leadership leave citizens in need of assurance that they are putting their faith in capable hands.
The works showcased will center around AgitProp and AgitTrains and how a consumer would experience these.
Brief History
The Constructivism Movement began in Russia in 1917 and lasted until 1935. After  a series of transfers of power, citizens were losing faith in the permanence of any regime.
To solve for this, the Bolshevik government outfitted public transportation with propaganda. Trains filled with such materials were called AgitTrains and are the primary focus of this exhibition.

Wall Imagery
The external walls will have murals that were painted on the side of the AgitTrains. Internal wall imagery will resemble the inside layout of an AgitTrain.
Brief History
This wall will cover the February Revolution, Bolshevik Revolution and Russian Civil War that led to instability and new leadership in the Russian government and how it necessitated propaganda.
Visual Screens
A small screen resembling a Mutoscope shows the “Agit-train of the Central Committee” by Dziga Vertov. Another display is interactive, where you can move through the various pieces.
